Expands B.C.’s clean electricity grid to power mining, energy projects and create thousands of jobs.
The Government of British Columbia has broken ground on the North Coast Transmission Line, a major infrastructure project that will expand the province’s clean electricity grid to support mining, LNG, ports, and other industrial developments. The Province says the project will create 9,700 direct full-time jobs, contribute nearly $10 billion annually to B.C.’s GDP, and generate $950 million in annual government revenue while helping reduce reliance on U.S. markets under its Look West strategy. Construction will take place in two phases through 2032, with support from the federal government and planned co-ownership agreements with First Nations.
5 ex-B.C. Conservative MLAs now forming new party
Five former B.C. Conservative MLAs, including Peter Milobar, Ian Paton, Rosalyn Bird, Bruce Banman, and Áʼa:líya Warbus are joining together to form a new provincial political party, positioning themselves as a pragmatic alternative to the governing NDP. The move follows significant turmoil within the B.C. Conservative caucus, with nine Conservative MLAs having quit the caucus since Kerry-Lynne Findlay was elected party leader in May, citing concerns over the party’s direction and leadership. Led by Milobar on an interim basis, the new party says it will focus on affordability, health care, property rights, and natural resource development while offering a less ideological approach. The party is expected to seek official third-party status with five sitting MLAs when the legislature returns.
