Bil Hetherington has 15 years of experience building trust and collaborating with governments, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and communities in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. His skill set includes advocacy, regulatory and compliance, stakeholder relations, and stakeholder risk management for capital projects and portfolios, and for commodity-market facing teams. 

With a passion for energy transition, Bil has worked in fuels, electricity and oil and gas, as well as chemicals and mining. He has on-the-ground experience in remote resource communities and has led multi-stakeholder and industry association initiatives. 

Prior to joining Earnscliffe, Bil worked for Shell for 8 years, establishing a strategy and regulatory advice function in Canada for the global low carbon fuels trading desk, focused on compliance and carbon credit profit maximization. He also worked in Shell HQ in Europe where he provided reputation and stakeholder risk management tools, assurance, governance, and advice for Shell’s global major project portfolio and led operations for Shell’s most senior policy and reputation secretariat. Prior to Shell he worked for the Government of Alberta Ministry of Energy in the electricity division, and for Suncor Energy. 

Bil is from Calgary and before joining industry, worked for an MLA, worked on political campaigns, and was active in the arts and culture sectors, including serving on the board of the Calgary Folk Music Festival. He currently resides in Victoria.
