Bil Hetherington has 15 years of experience building trust and collaborating with governments, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and communities in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. His skill set includes advocacy, regulatory and compliance, communications, stakeholder relations, and risk management for capital projects and portfolios, and for commodity-market facing teams.
With a passion for energy transition, Bil has worked in fuels, electricity, oil and gas, as well as chemicals and mining. He has on-the-ground experience in remote resource communities and has led multi-stakeholder and industry association initiatives.
Prior to joining Earnscliffe, Bil worked for Shell for 8 years, including a 4-year assignment in Europe at Shell’s headquarters where he provided reputation and stakeholder risk management assurance and advice for Shell’s global major projects portfolio and led operations for Shell’s most senior policy and reputation secretariat. He was also a member of the Group’s emergency response and crisis communications teams. Upon returning to Canada, Bil established a strategy and regulatory advice function for Shell’s global low carbon fuels trading desk, focused on compliance and carbon credit profit maximization.
Prior to his career in industry, Bil worked for an MLA, worked on political campaigns, and was active in the arts and culture sectors in Calgary, where he grew up.
Bil holds a bachelor’s degree in policy studies from Mount Royal University.
