“There was lots of back patting on Parliament Hill yesterday as U.S. Vice President Mike Pence met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Top of the agenda was the ratification of the new North American trade deal which has been getting a rough ride from Democrats in the U.S. Congress. The two politicians also talked China, with Pence promising to turn up the heat on that country over the detention of two Canadians. The tone of the meeting remained cordial even after Trudeau brought up the divisive issue of abortion, telling Pence he’s concerned about new restrictions on abortion rights in some U.S. states. Sarah Goldfeder was watching all of this unfold yesterday; she’s a former U.S. diplomat and she’s now with Earnscliffe Strategy Group.”
