Shakir is a Principal, Government Relations at Earnscliffe Strategies. As a strategic communicator, campaign strategist, and government affairs expert Shakir helps his clients navigate complex legislative, regulatory and policy issues while ensuring their voices are heard by policymakers.

Prior to consulting, Shakir acted as an advisor to federal and provincial governments. He began his career on Parliament Hill in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) before becoming a policy advisor to the federal Minister of International Trade. During his time at Queen’s Park, Shakir led policy development on several priority policy files for two oppositions leaders. His private sector experience includes serving as public policy advisor at a major telecommunications company.

A highly sought-after political commentator, Shakir provides regular analysis for television, radio and print. He is a weekly panelist on CBC’s Power and Politics, and holds board positions with The Empire Club of Canada and The Walrus.

As an advocate for the Black community, Shakir is passionate about mentoring Black youth with an interest in politics and public affairs. He holds two Masters’ degrees from Western University and pursued his Ph.D. in Canada-China relations at Carleton University.
